Getting your children involved in Schutzhund might not be the first thing to come to mind when you think about introducing your kids to a new activity.  Schutzhund has widely been know as an "Adult Sport" fortunately more and more kids are wanting to get involved.  In Schutzhund your child will not only be competing against others people and their dogs (most likely adults) but also with themselves. This in turn builds confidence in your child and teamwork and trust with the dog.

Youth handler will experience many  different things all at once, training is  hard and yet very rewarding, it can be difficult but a huge learning experience for your children in life.   In life, young people are often discounted because of our lack of experience, but in Schutzhund, you can be any age and make it a great experience. Some children will be  born into the sport by having parents who are involved with Schutzhund, and others can stumble into by us as adults showing leadership and the Youth talking to their friends about their dogs and experiences.  

No matter which way youth enter the world of Schutzhund, there is a wealth of experiences to enjoy. There is much hard work and competition, but also a great camaraderie among the participants and a chance to make life long friends who share their love of the breed and sport. I encourage you to get the word out about Schutzhund, because one day they will be the adults of Schutzhund, and will be need to keep the Working Bouvier Alive and Still Working!!
